My research interests are in the fields of multimedia signal processing, networking and communications. In particular, my expertise includes image and video coding, data compression, video error concealment, error resilient video coding, joint source channel coding, multiple description coding and distributed source coding. Current research efforts are targeting the design of novel IP-TV solutions and P2P streaming applications. Other research activities are in the area of distributed systems and sensor networks.
From September 2001 to June 2002 he was a visiting researcher at the Information Coding Lab, University of California, San Diego, directed by Prof. Pamela Cosman. Since 2002 he joined the Italian national body to the ISO, where he is involved in the standardization of JPEG 2000 - Part 11 (JPWL), devoted to the wireless applications of JPEG2000. Currently, he is following the standardization activities of the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) in area of 3D video coding.
