Vision in mantis shrimps
Sensory ecology of crustacean communities
Magnetoperception in honeybees
Vision: Several parallel subsystems exist in eyes of mantis shrimps for
processing of sensory information. Research regards models for target
localization, shape recognition, image analysis and figure-ground resolution,
based on experimental results.
Sensory ecology: Study of sensory organs in crustaceans from land,
shallow water and deep sea.
Magnetoperception: Two systems exist: compass sense and map sense, both
relying on magnetite crystals. For the map sense electrophysiological and
electronmicroscopical studies constituted the base for modelling the system.
The models assume amplifying antennae (hairs with magnetite) and associative
learning in nervous processing.
