Research activity in 1994
I am continuing a comparative study of the most recent RISC microprocessors,
especially the implementations of the Alpha architecture, defined by Digital
Equipment Corporation and of the POWERPC, defined by the IBM-Motorola
collaboration. A particularly hot topic at the present time is the resolution
of the conflict between the tendency to introduce very high levels of
superscaling and the limited number of programmable registers defined in the
architectures. Another study, independent of any architecture involves the
definition of complex arithmetic operations, such as those in floating point,
as purely combinatorial functions.
As part of a collaboration with the CSI Piemonte, I am preparing the final
seminars
on the topic, "Technological Innovations related to Network architectures and
Cooperating Systems.
In collaboration with the INFN (Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare), a
doctoral candidate and I are working on the definition of algorithms in fuzzy
logic for the recognition of noisy geometrical forms
In collaboration with Prof. Balossino, I am involved in the design of a
multimedial workstation employing aspects of parallel architectures.
