PhD schools (in all disciplines) started in Italian Universities only in 1982. Since then the Computer Science Department of Università di Torino supported the organisation of the PhD School in Computer Science at Università di Torino. The joint research activity between the members of the Department and the PhD students is of paramount importance for both. Many joint papers are witnesses of this collaboration. The success of our PhD Program is also shown by the high number of past PhD students who actually have academic position in Italy or in foregoing countries. In the year 1999 sixteen PhD students were active in the Computer Science Department of Torino University. Since 1999 the PhD School in Computer Science of Università di Torino is member of the Italian interuniversitary Partnership (IP) of the European Educational Forum (EEF, http://www.tucs.abo.fi/EEF/). The EEF involves 25 universities in Denmark, The Netherlands, Finland, Italy and the United Kingdom. The common denominator of the research schools is the training of Ph.D. students and young researchers. The aim of the EEF is to organise training activities directed at Ph.D. students and young researchers from all over Europe. The research in computer science promoted by all research schools concerns Basic Research and its Applications.
