How to propose a new project?

In 24 Hours Operations Research it is aimed to present a collection of operational research problems faced in everyday life with the appropriate solution approaches in order to contribute to ongoing work on promoting and branding OR. Examples of such problems can be viewed by activating the  Projects menu item on the left navigation menu. The target audience of this web site consists of experts of the discipline as well as non-experts like students, managers who may be unaware of the demand for activities of operational research. Considering this fact the project descriptions are divided into 3 parts, namely:

Problem definition

In problem definition the real life situations are explained so that a non-expert reader understands the problem. To achieve this it is important to provide self explaining pictures and circumventing technical terms.

Solution approach

In solution approach introductory information about the tools of operational research are given. The interested reader is directed to links containing comprehensive information about the topics.

Additional information

Additional information is aimed at readers with working knowledge of mathematical programming, optimization, simulation etc. The references used in the project description (books, journals, technical reports, PhD thesises), related software, neighbouring fields of research are given in additional information.

Note that in various pages some text items are marked with yellow and a tooltip providing supplementary information appears when the reader hovers over that item with the mouse. With the help of tooltips it is achieved that the expert reader easily skips the supplementary information that the non-expert reader would get. In some tooltips the reader is directed to related links. Such text items are marked with yellow and written in square brackets [ ]. Please see the next page for instructions on authors.
