Short Bio
Gianfranco Balbo received his MS and PH.D. in Computer Science from Purdue University (USA) after graduating in Physics at the University of Torino (Italy). Since 1978 he is Professor of Computer Science at the University of Torino. His research interests are in the area queuing theory, queuing networks, and stochastic Petri nets applied for the evaluation of the performance of computer-communication systems and for the analysis of biological systems. He is one of the proposers of the Generalized Stochastic Petri Net (GSPN) formalism. He has published over 90 scientific papers and co-authored three books. He has been member of the Scientific and Steering Committees of many International Conferences. He has been the keynote speaker of the 2012 Winter Simulation Conference, Berlin, Germany. He is an ISI highly cited researcher, a member of the Academy of Sciences of Torino, and a member of the ACM.
