Workshops of this
series have usually been held in attractive locations, sometimes in
isolated places.
This year we won't
be isolated except in case of snow storms... in fact the workshop will
be held during the ski season in a resort in Sansicario, a village in the
Via Lattea (Milky Way) ski area.
Via Lattea is one
of the largest ski areas in Italy, and it will host the Winter Olympic
Games in 2006. It features 140 downhill ski trails for a total of 400 km,
with altitudes ranging from 1500 to 2800 m, as well as facilities for other
winter sport activities.
It is located about
100 km west of Turin, in north-western Italy.

Travel
Information
To Sansicario
By train/bus
Sansicario is a few
km from the railway station named "Oulx-Cesana-Claviere-Sestriere" and
located at Oulx.
This station is on
the international line connecting Modane (France) to Turin and can be reached:
from Turin Porta Nuova
Railway Station (airport Bus terminal)
Intercity trains (5
daily): about 45 min
local trains (several
daily); about 1h 15 min
by TGV (high speed train) from Paris (2 daily
direct trains): about 4h 30 min
by TGV from
Lyon (2 daily): about 3h
The best solution
is to reach Oulx by train. If you plan to fly in Turin, then you should
reach Turin Porta Nuova railway station with the bus from the airport,
and then take a train to Oulx. We are organizing a shuttle from Oulx
station to the hotels; information about the shuttle will be soon
available.

(Bardonecchia) and T4 (Frejus Tunnel)

PLEASE NOTICE that the
last few km are steep and there could be snow or ice on roads (esp. at night or early morning). Snow

if you rent a car.
To Turin or Milan by plane
-
Airplane to Turin International
Airport (TRN)
Connections to main
European hubs: Paris (7 daily), Frankfurt (6 daily), Zurich (4 daily),
Bruxelles (3 daily), Amsterdam (3 daily), London STN (2 daily, with some
very cheap fares), London LGW (daily), Madrid (2 daily), Barcelona (4 daily),
Munich (3 daily), Rome (15 daily)
For up-to-date timetables
see e.g. http://www.turin-airport.com
From airport to
Turin: Bus to Railway Stations every 30min. Travel time 40 min.
-
Airplane to Milan Malpensa
Airport (MPX)
This airport
is the Alitalia Hub for northern Italy, with intercontinental connections.
We do not recommend this solution since bus connections to Turin (1h 45
min travel time) are not frequent, then going to Turin through Milan (1h
10 by bus + 1h 45 by train or bus) could be necessary.
