Ouro Preto, Brasil

Silvia Likavec

A place very often hidden in charming mist and fog. The first time you go there, you think you would never arrive and why you decided to go to this end on earth anyway. But soon you are in love for ever.

The highest buildings are the churches, no shopping centres, wonderful colorful windows, steep streets, old roofs and green hills. This is a place where Brasil's history meets the present.
If you go as a tourist, you would be fascinated by its many churches, precious stones and history. But if you are lucky to go as an exchange student (as I was), then you would feel how your life changes. "Convento" is my another home and I am very proud to have my photo hanging on the wall. It means I am always there. And it is true.

Pico do Itacolomi
Pico do Itacolomi, still 2-3h away
My dearest girls tought me many things besides portuguese. Wild parties until dawn. Meetings resolving important things about life in a "big family". Festa do 12 when the whole town celebrates university life. Walking up the hill for hours to get to Pico do Itacolomi where you feel the whole world is beneath you.
And you are surprised again and again. And you always have a hard time to leave...

I was in DECOM (Departamento di Computacao), ICEB, UFOP(Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto).
