My research concerns the definition of the methodology called meta-argumentation. The methodology of meta-argumentation instantiates Dung's abstract argumentation theory with an extended argumentation theory, and it is thus based on a combination of the methodology of instantiating abstract arguments, and the methodology of extending Dung's basic argumentation frameworks with other relations among abstract arguments. The technique of meta-argumentation applies Dung's theory of abstract argumentation to itself, by instantiating Dung's abstract arguments with meta-arguments using a technique called flattening. We apply the meta-argumentation methodology on different challenges in formal argumentation: the support relation among arguments in bipolar argumentation, the graded trust evaluation by merging argumentation frameworks in multi-agent argumentation and coalition formation using argumentation theory.

My second research line concerns the definition of a new design methodology based on the multiagent paradigm using as way of representation dependence networks.
I am particularly interested in the use of normative notions such as obligations and permissions and in the application of argumentation techniques for design analysis.
One of the key issues of my research consists in the definition of a notion of coalition based on dependence networks and their evolutions (dynamic dependence networks and conditional dependence networks) underlining particularly the concept of coalitions' stability.

I cooperate with Prof. Guido Boella, Prof. Leendert van der Torre (CSC, University of Luxembourg), Prof. Dov M. Gabbay (King's College London).
